A Ball Head Type Vacuum Brazed Stone Tool (also known as a Ball Nose Diamond Finger Bit) is the premier choice for 3D finishing and detailed carving in the stone industry. While a "Flat Head" bit is used for clearing flat bottoms, the "Ball Head" features a rounded tip that allows your CNC to sculpt smooth curves, intricate reliefs, and organic shapes.
For your business, ABV Tool, these are high-demand items among temple carvers and luxury countertop fabricators in Gujarat.
1. Why use a Ball Head vs. Flat Head?
3D Contouring: The hemispherical tip allows the machine to follow complex 3D paths (like the curves of a statue or a flower) without leaving "steps" or sharp ridges.
Smooth Transitions: It is the only tool capable of creating "scallop-free" finishes on curved surfaces.
Structural Strength: Unlike a flat bit that concentrates stress at two corners, the ball head distributes the load across the entire radius, making it less likely to chip the stone during heavy engraving.
2. Applications for Stone Fabricators
| Application | Why Ball Head VB? |
| 3D Religious Carving | Essential for faces, hands, and floral patterns in Marble and Sandstone. |
| Drainage Flutes | Used to grind the rounded "water run-off" channels in kitchen sinks and drainboards. |
| Bas-Relief Work | Perfect for "wall art" and traditional Jali work that requires rounded interior edges. |
| Edge Profiling | Creating a "Half Bullnose" or rounded cove edge on thick stone slabs. |
3. Vacuum Brazed vs. Sintered Ball Nose
In your shop, you likely carry both. Here is how to advise your customers:
Vacuum Brazed (VB): Best for Marble & Sandstone. It is much sharper out of the box and cuts faster. It is "non-clogging" because the diamonds are highly exposed.
Sintered: Best for Granite & Hard Quartz. It lasts much longer because the diamonds are embedded throughout the metal, but it cuts slower and requires constant "opening" with an abrasive stone.
4. Technical Operating Guide
RPM Management: These tools perform best at 8,000 to 12,000 RPM. Never run them at the 20,000+ RPM speeds used for wood, as the friction will burn the diamond layer.
Water Feed: While VB tools are capable of dry cutting, internal or external water cooling is highly recommended to flush out stone slurry and prevent the bit from overheating.
Step-Over for Finish: For a "smooth-to-the-touch" finish on a marble carving, use a step-over of 8% to 10% of the tool diameter.
Feed Rate: Start at 300–500 mm/min for marble. If the machine is vibrating, slow down the feed or check for tool runout.
